Documenting my First Year Making Maple Syrup

I’ve decided that it might be a good idea to document here my experiences making maple syrup. It is my first year trying it out with my backyard forest maple trees. I haven’t been able to complete a first batch of syrup yet. I have evaporated around 13-15 gallons of sap so far. An experienced syrup maker would know that I have some ways to go before the syrup is done as I am maintaining a level of over a gallon in the pot. Mistakes in undertaking something new are inevitable and one of them is not having enough syrup on hand to keep the evaporation process going. I have only 11 taps out there but as my operation is really small I though that would have been enough. Although the season is not over yet, the weather in the coming days isn’t too good to get more sap. It will be above freezing as a low tomorrow and in the coming days, and well into the 50’s as a high. We might even get some rain as well. Not the best outlook. But hopefully ill get some good cooler days before the month is out to complete my first batch of maple syrup. The picture above is of my first tapped tree with a bucket. :)
