What lifts this melodrama to graphic drama is the presence of a half-naked ghost of a Rebel soldier, John Nobody (Benedict Hudson), who comments on the inanities of the deal and who offers a movingly eloquent final soliloquy of the bloody events of the war. Hudson gives a remarkable performance that is part ballet and deeply poetic in its imagery and sincerity.  – James F. Cotter, The Times Herald Record
